Nestled in a magnificent majestic valley at the base of the Gold Coast's Mount Tambourine, Managing Director / Oenologist Robert Thumm continues his family's three hundred year heritage of viticulture and winemaking. Beginning in one of the most delightful wine producing regions of Europe - the Neckar Valley in Germany - it progressed to Australia when Robert's father, Herman, emigrated in 1946. With him he bought all the colourful traditions of European winemaking and settled in the beautiful Barossa Valley. There he fulfilled a lifelong dream with the creation of the beautiful Chateau Yaldara.

Robert's passion for the family business began over twenty five years ago. During that time he worked at many famous European wineries. He gained his Diploma of Oenology at the internationally acclaimed technical research University of Geisenhelm in Germany. Furthering his skills, he helped develop the world's only commercially operated vacuum distillation process, and holds patents for rapid analysis of alcohol, safe stainless steel storage of perishables and the reduction of evaporation of volatiles such as spirits.

With creative new styles in mind and the necessity to be close to the excellent Asian/Pacific markets, he then extended the family business to Kriedeman Road, Upper Coomera in 2000.

Thumm Estate Winery presents an idyllic setting for picnics and walking, surrounded by handcrafted gardens and lakes. There are underground cellars for bottle storage and where ancient large port vats are housed as well as the world's first highly nutritional grape superspread manufacturing plant, all which can be viewed by the public.

"The nurtured vineyard is the cradle of great wines, and this statement forms the cornerstone for our winemaking direction", said Robert Thumm. "To reflect the true regional nature of our wine, we source only premium fruit from regions best suited to the particular varieties".

The Winery, Cellar Door / Tastings and Alfresco dining are open every day of the year excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day.
